Schotland 5...

Na het afscheid van Fort William gaat onze reis naar Lochearnhead.
Uiteraard zijn we weer wat te vroeg bij onze B&B 'Tigh Na Crich' maar dat lossen we altijd op door de lunch te combineren met het bekijken van de omgeving.
Een rondje rond Loch Earn, waar veel gevaren wordt en gevist op 'Strout'

After saying goodbye to Fort William, our journey went to Lochearnhead.
Ofcourse we are way to early again at our B&B 'Tigh Na Crich' but we always solve this by combining our lunch with sightseeing.
We ride around Loch Earn, there are many boats on the water and lots of people fishing on 'Strout'

Deze B&B van John & Irene Tippett was toch wel echt de mooiste waar we gelogeerd hebben.
Aan de buitenkant zag je niet dat het van binnen kasteelinvloeden had.
Buiten dat, waren John & Irene ook nog eens de meest gastvrije B&B eigenaren die we ontmoet hebben (hoewel ze allemaal héél vriendelijk waren hoor).
Ik vind het wel jammer dat ik toen nog niet zó met fotografie bezig was als nu dus heb er helaas véél te weinig genomen en er zijn er ook mèt mijn gezin, die ik niet wil gebruiken...
Maar toch...ik hoop dat je een indruk krijgt...

This B&B from John & Irene Tippett was the most beautiful one we stayed in.
On the outside you couldn't see the castle influences on the inside.
Beyond that, John & Irene were the most welcoming B&B owners we met
(although they were all very friendly and kind)
It's a pity that I wasn't into photography as I am today, because I made way to few photos.
I also have some with my family, that I don't want to use...
But still...I hope you get a good impression...

De B&B was zo relaxed (lekker kopje koffie of thee,  lekkere koekjes en chocolade erbij) dat we die middag daar gebleven zijn en Braveheart hebben gekeken op DVD. Dit was wel leuk want we konden in de film precies de hotspots herkennen en we zouden de dag erna naar Stirling Castle gaan waar het verhaal over Robert de Bruce en William Wallace zich afspeelde.

De B&B was so relaxed (nice cup of coffee or tea, some cookies and chocolate) that we stayed there for the afternoon and looked Braveheart on DVD. That was really nice because we could recognize some hotspots in the movie, and we would go to Stirling Castle the next day where the story about William Wallace and Robert de Bruce took place.

Heel Stirling Castle stond in de steigers vanwege een grote renovatie, dus echt veel hebben we niet gezien maar de gids vertelde leuk en maakte een paar slechte grappen over de amerikaan Mel Gibson die de schot William Wallace vertolkte. 

Vooral veel gehoord dat de film véél te romantisch was...maar ja...het oog wil ook wat...;)

The whole castle was under construction because of a big renovation, so we didn't see a lot, but the guide was a good entertainer and made a few bad jokes about the american Mel Gibson, who played the scot William Wallace.

We've heard a lot that the movie was way to romantic...but hey...it must also have a kind of nice look...;)

Na ons afscheid van John & Irene (snik) reden we via Doune Castle waar 'Monthy Python' is opgenomen.
Er was een heuse troubadour aan het zingen en spelen...

After our farewell from John & Irene (snif) we drove to Doune Castle where they made 'Monty Python'.
There was a real troubadour singing and playing...

Nadat we onze bagage in het hotel hadden gebracht (dit was de enige keer dat we geen B&B hadden), zijn we naar PERTH gereden waar echte highland games waren.

After we put our luggage in our hotel (this was the only time we hadn't had a B&B) we drove to PERTH for the highland games.

Deze echte schotse dans (en ja, de tweede van links is een jongen) was super zwaar, wij hebben met open mond staan te kijken...

This typical scottisch dance (and yes, the second from the left is a boy) was really heavy, we watched this with our mouth open...

De volgende dag stond Edinburgh op ons lijstje, de tip van onze kasteelheer was om met het openbaar vervoer vanaf een grote parkeerplaats, de stad in te gaan vanwege de Military Tattoo, en daarna lopend naar het kasteel.
Zo gezegd, zo gedaan, het was een warme dag en mijn lief was blij dat hij niet links in deze (vooral nu) drukke stad hoefde te rijden...

It was very crowdy in Edinburgh because of the Military Tattoo, so we went to a big parking place, and took the bus from there to the centre, and then walked to the castle.
It was a warm day and my love was happy he hadn't have to drive left in this (especcially now) busy city.

Het was de moeite waard om gezien te hebben maar wij houden wel meer van de schoonheid en rust van het platteland...

It was worth seeing but we do love the beauty and rest of the countryside more...

Volgende keer mijn laatste post van onze rondreis door Schotland.
Dan gaan we nog even via onze vrienden in Leuchars en naar het kasteel van Harry Potter...

Zondagwandeling...

Vanochtend heb ik maar weer eens mijn wandelschoenen aangetrokken en heerlijk een stuk langs het water gelopen...het was prachtig weer!

This morning I put on my hiking shoes for a good walk by the water...the weather was lovely!

De vlierbes zit tjokvol met bessen.

The elderberry is bursting with berries.

Behalve een paar hardlopers en wandelaars kom je haast niemand tegen, heerlijk vredig en rustig, zo lekker na een drukke week...

Eccept for a couple of runners and walkers you hardly meet someone, so peacefull and quiet, feels so good after a busy week...

Wuivend riet, rozebottels, vlierbessen, gelderse roos en onverwachts nog een kleine vlinder...

Swaying reeds, rosehips, elderberries, guelder rose and an unexpected little butterfly...

Ik vind het allemaal even prachtig en het is toch echt het begin van de herfst als je al die kleuren ziet, al zou je het aan die blauwe lucht te zien, en de temperatuur te voelen, niet zeggen...

Dat wordt ook weer genieten :)

I think it's all wonderfull and yet it is really getting autumn when you see those colours, although you might not say it when you see the blue sky and feel the warm temperature... 

I will be enjoying that too :)

Schotland 4...

De Isle of Sky is toch wel een echte aanrader gebleken, die tip hadden we ook gekregen, en we vonden het er heel bijzonder.

De volgende dag ging onze reis weer door naar Fort William.

Onderweg natuurlijk weer de prachtigste vergezichten en achter iedere berg weer wat anders te zien, zo weids en alle ruimte, je komt niet veel mensen tegen...

On our way from Isle of Sky (which was really magnificient) to Fort William, we had the most beautiful views.
So wide, so much space, you get very few people against...

Rond 12:00 uur (wat vroeger dan anders) waren we al bij Mrs Alton (Alltonside Guest House) en de kamer was al schoon zodat we onze spullen konden droppen, makkelijk.
Prachtig uitzicht op Loch Lynn.
Ons doel van vandaag was 'the road to the isles'  met Mallaig en Morar.
De route naar Mallaig zit ook in de films van Harry Potter 'Steen der Wijzen' en 'de Geheime Kamer'.
Je kunt deze route doen met de stoomlocomotief  uit de film (vreselijk lange wachttijden en in de rij gaan liggen om 05:00 's ochtends) maar wij kozen ervoor om lekker te gaan rijden en zien waar we uitkwamen...tijd aan jezelf...

Round noon (a bit earlier than normal) we were at Mrs Alton (Alltonside Guest House).
The room was clean so we could drop our stuff.
Beautiful view on Loch Lynn.
Our goal today was driving the 'road to the isles' with Mallaig and Morar.
The route to Mallaig is also in the Harry Potter movies 'the Philosopher's Stone' and  'the Secret Chambre'
You could drive this route by the stome locomotive from the movie (awful long waiting in line at 05:00 in the morning), but we choose to drive by our own car and see where we got...time to ourselves...

This is the ordinary train that goes by every hour...

My love just throwing out a fishing rod after our picnic lunch...

My boys running on the beach, great white sand...

Even spontaan een potje meedoen met een ander jongetje...
Schitterend warm weer (22 graden) met zon, wit zand en superblauw water...
JA dit is toch écht Schotland...

Just spontaneously join a game with a boy...
Suberb warm weather (22 degrees) with sun, white sand and almost azure blue water...
YEP this is really Scotland...

De volgende dag waren we van plan 'Devils Staircase' te gaan lopen...

The next day we planned on walking 'Devil's Staircase'...

Langs watervalletjes zijn we gewoon die 'kale' berg gaan opklauteren...

Along waterfalls we were just going to climb up that big 'bald' mountain...

Boven aan de top, de witte stukjes is het pad...(het was inderdaad een duivelse wandeling) was dit ons waanzinnige uitzicht,
een immens schoon, gezond, groen, groot, leeg land, je hoorde alleen de wind en wat medeklimmers.
En wat voelden we onszelf nietig...

On top of the mountain, the white pieces is the path...(it was really a devils walk) this was our incredible vieuw,
 an immense clean, healthy, green, big, empty land, you could only hear the wind and some fellow climbers.
And we felt null and void....

's Middags op het strand van Oban doorgebracht, hadden we dik verdiend, en hebben daar ook lekker zitten BBQ-en. 's Avonds gingen we via Dunstaffnage Castle terug naar de B&B.
Want van kastelen en ruïnes kunnen we geen genoeg krijgen...

In the afternoon we hang out on the beach in Oban, we really earned it, and settled down with our BBQ.
In the evening we went by Dunstaffnage Castle on our way back to our B&B.
Because we never get enough of castles and ruïns...

Volgende keer laat ik jullie de mooiste B&B zien, waar we gelogeerd hebben en gaan we naar Stirling Castle, je weet wel die van BRAVEHEART...

Trompetjasmijn...

Onze enorme trompetjasmijn is inmiddels 18 jaar oud en bloeit elk jaar vol overgave...

Our enormous Trumpet Jasmine is now 18 years old and blooms diligently every year...

Het is een prachtige natuurlijke parasol op ons terras en kijk eens hoe dik de stam is geworden...

It's a beautiful natural sunshade on our terrace, and look how thick the trunk has become...

De Trompetjasmijn bloeit in laat in de zomer, begint zo'n beetje in augustus.

 Daarom hebben we in de boog ook een Clematis Montana Olga laten groeien en die is heel vroeg,

 bloeit al in april/mei.

 Deze is zacht rose en bloeit weelderig...

 nu uitgebloeid... 

The Trumpet Jasmine blooms late summer, starts about in august.

 That's why we also let a Clematis Montana Olga grow in the bow and that one is really early,

 blooms already in april/may.

The clematis is lovely soft pink and blooms sumptuous...

 in mei, volle bloei... 

Maar zoals je ziet, begint de herfst zich toch echt aan te kondigen, en de trompetjasmijn laat zijn trompetters met tientallen tegelijk vallen...

Nog even een zondagmiddagje lezen in de tuin...

Voor de laatste keer...?

But as you can see autumn really starts now, and the trumpet jasmine lets it's trumpeters fall with dozens at a time...

Just do a little reading on a sundayafternoon in the garden...

Zilverzoen...

Een aantal weken geleden namen mijn collega's en ik afscheid van onze 4e balie collega Ineke.

We hadden besloten haar te verwennen met een High Tea in Elburg bij Zilverzoen.

Je kunt er heerlijk op het terras zitten, en ook binnen is het er gezellig en knus.

De bediening is TOP  je zit nooit lang te wachten en ze zijn allemaal even vriendelijk.

A few weeks ago my colleagues and I  had to say goodbye to one of our 4th desk colleague Ineke.

We had decided to pamper her with a High Tea in Elburg at Zilverzoen (Silver Kiss).

You can relax on the terrace, and inside it's also cozy and comfortable.

The service is TOP you'll never have to wait long and all of the staff is friendly.

We kregen eerst nog een glaasje bubbels om te proosten en

 daarna een heerlijk soepje (met brie en lente-ui) vooraf.

Daarna deze verrukkelijke schaal met lekkers...

en natuurlijk...THEE...

Het was smultijd...

 

We first got a glass of bubbles to toast 

and then for starters a soup (with brie and spring onion).

After that this delightful plate with delicious appetisers...

and ofcourse...TEA...

It was jummie time...

Elke keer als ik er kom moet ik weer kijken naar alle decoratie.

De gepassioneerde eigenaresse past het telkens aan het seizoen aan.

Daar wordt veel tijd in gestoken...

Every time I go there I have to look at all the decoration.

The passioned owner adjusts it every time to the season.

That takes a lot of effort and time...

De visnetten hangen klaar voor het feestelijke Botterweekend...

The fishingnets are already hanging for the festive Botterweekend...

Veel gelachen, genoten, en onze collega vond het heel gezellig, en daar was het uiteindelijk voor bedoeld ;-)

Volgende keer laat ik jullie wat meer zien over mijn geliefde Elburg, waar ik wel een paar jaar gewoond heb,  maar nu alleen nog heel regelmatig kom.

Lots of laughs, enjoyed, and our colleague had a great time, and for her it was ultimately intended ;-)

Next time I'll show you some more of my beloved Elburg, where I used to live for a few years, 

but now only visit regularly.

Vriendinnenweekend...

 Ruim 30 jaar geleden zijn mijn vriendin en ik echt bevriend met elkaar geraakt. We zaten al bij elkaar op de basisschool maar pas op het voortgezet onderwijs gingen we steeds meer met elkaar om.

Een vriendschap om te koesteren en dat doen we dan ook.

 Dus gaan we nu één keer per 2 of 3 jaar een lang weekend weg ergens in Nederland.

Afgelopen weekend was het weer zover en zijn we in Egmond aan Zee geweest.

Wat een TOP weekend was dit zeg, we hebben echt de laatste zomerzonnestralen meegepikt!

More than 30 years ago my girlfriend and I got really close friends. We went to the same school but it wasn't until highschool that we began to see each other more and more.

A friendship to cherish and that's what we still do.

So once in every 2 or 3 years we pick a weekend and go to a nice place here in Holland.

Last weekend was that moment and we went to Egmond aan Zee.

And what a GREAT  weekend was that, we really absorbed the last sunrays!

They had the greatest beachchairs I've ever seen...

And a decadent seagull who turned his back on me...

A beautiful BLUE sky and RED rosehips on our way from the beach to our hotel...

De volgende dag gingen we (UITERAARD!!!) naar Alkmaar, wat een geweldige stad met mooie winkeltjes, nìet die grote winkelketens...en wat een prachtige gebouwen.

We hebben lekker op terrasjes gezeten en genoten van de zon en de mensen die langs kwamen...

The next day we went (OFCOURSE!!!) to Alkmaar, what a lovely city with lots of nice cozy shops, not the  large retail...and such a beautiful buildings.

We sat comfortably on terraces and enjoyed the sun and people that came by...

Bijzondere winkeltjes zoals 'Jubar' een winkeltje èn kapper ineen.
 'Twin Arts' met spulletjes van Riverdale en Jeanne 'd Arc, en
'de Ouderwetse Winkel'  de oudste winkel van Alkmaar (sedert 1835) met alle soorten borstels, touw en klompen.


Special shops like, 'Jubar' a shop and Barber together.
'Twin Arts'with home decoration from Riverdale and Jeanne 'd Arc, en
'de Ouderwetse Winkel' (oldfashioned shop) the oldest shop from Alkmaar (since 1835) with all kinds of brushes, rope and clogs.

Bloemen op de markt en in de nauwe straatjes, een lekkere lunch, kopje verse muntthee...
Het leven is beter dan goed ;)

Flowers at the market and in the narrow streets, a great lunch, a cup of  fresh minttea...
Life is better than good ;)

Het was weer fantastisch om bij te kletsen, te lachen en stil te zijn zonder een ongemakkelijk gevoel.
Als je elkaar al zo lang kent heb je vaak aan een half woord genoeg ook al zit er weer maanden tussen...
