Keukenkast...

Kitchen cabinet...

Here's another old story from me...
In spring 2012 it had to happen...the first bought cabinet (redwood was hot then) from my love and me was ready for a make-over. The cabinet was 23 years old and was/is very important to us, I attach great emotional value to stuff...but...let's start at the beginning.
I'd heard that it was easy to use paint stripper. So I bought the white paste and I smeared it with a brush, then, it said...you could easily BRUSH it of...
No way...what a misery...tryed to stab it of, really...asked advice through Facebook, and got the tip to use toxic drain cleaner...brush it and and rinse.
I'd had to wear gloves and safety glasses (onfortunily no photo...haha).
But it worked great!
When the cabinet was dry after a week I just sanded it also, because of the edges and slots...just incase...

What a delight to be able to paint after such a horrible job.
I painted the cabinet with 'Swanky Black' and 'Hot White' from PTMD. Great paint, good smear.
There are two layers paint on it.
Bought some new buttons, and ready was our new brocante cabinet.
Filled it with my precious glass, porcelain and silver...

My love and I are very happy with it, and the cabinet is ready for another 23 years :)
I'm curious...did you ever do a monstrous job like this...

For al my lovely crockery...

I'm really still very happy with my 'new'cabinet, every day again...

  1. WOW!! Marie-Jose, that is fabulous!I love the colour combination, one that I probably wouldn't have used, but it works terrifically. Do you have Annie Sloan paint in The Netherlands? I don't use anything else these days as you can just paint without sanding, stripping or priming ... but then again, I am rather lazy!

Thank you for your lovely comments over at Thriftwood, I'm so glad that you found me, because in turn I found your lovely blog too!

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely words. I just finished my translation...pfff. I hope you understand it and the mistakes are minimal;)
I don't know Annie Sloan paint but the paint I used is also easy for a quick use, but I made it so difficult to myself with the paint stripper...
      I think if I just used ammoniac...but hey that's always afterwards ;)
Next time I'll be lazy too, haha.
      I'm also glad we 'met'

  3. Hoi Nicole,

    Lieve groet, MJ

  4. This turned out beautifully even after your initial troubles! I did have a similar problems years ago. I bought paint stripper and did it in the house and nearly fainted from the smell! Then I couldn't even get it off before it dried and I am sad to say my story did not have a happy ending like yours. I couldn't save it and I am still sad when I think about it today. If I could go back in time, I would have just left it as it was. I am glad your were more successful than me!
